CANADA: “First Nations child welfare reform lauded”

This week, the Ottawa government announced a five-year, $177-million, Manitoba First Nations initiative that will emphasize prevention over removal of children from their homes. The initiative will place Manitoba First Nations child and welfare systems on equal footing with those in the rest of the province and allow CFS agencies to intervene when there are early signs of family breakdown or child neglect.
