Recently, Pennsylvania Secretary of Public Welfare Harriet Dichter announced that in 2009, the department had placed a record number of children in permanent homes. A total of 2,175 adoptions were finalized in Pennsylvania last year, which represents an increase of 121 adoptions over the previous year. Secretary Ditcher stated, “While we still have more than 3,000 children in Pennsylvania awaiting permanent homes, we are heading in the right direction….”
